As a new photographer looking for inspiration, Joy gravitated towards Tim Walker’s photography for many reasons.
“Tim Walker’s work is very well planned. He visualizes it, then turns it into a photograph. In the digital age, how hard is it to press the button to do one photo, you can take a thousand until you have the best one. How hard is it to really think about when you press the button, like you’re still shooting film. I always think before I press the button, is this the composition I want.
I did one project about the very modern equipment, earpods, a Kindle, with the model wearing renaissance clothing. I do want people to see and think about the hidden message or see that there’s something I want to say behind each image. I love to do personal projects which make me think more as an artist. Beauty shots present something beautiful, makeup, styling, a model’s face. Personal work is harder.”
